Is it normal for a regular small airport to perform a body search on me

Is it normal for a regular small airport to perform a body search on me?
I was on a one way flight to Dallas, and was approaching the search area where your bags get sent through. I as asked to move to another area for a body search. not a cavity search, but the blue gloves, searching my whole body and then in front of everyone they one by one took out my personal things going through my things. They laid them out in plain view. They ran a round cloth over each item and ran through a machine to detect for any substance. Can anyone tell me if this is normal while everyone else went through the regular check point? I felt violated and very embarrased. They made me stand with my arms and legs spread apart to do the search. They asked me if I wanted to go to another private room and I said no, because I had nothing to hide. I had a bottle of Afrin that went through and passed. Then I had a tube of cream lip stick that was expensive. She asked if I had a zip lock baggie to put it in and I said no. Had to throw it away. I need to find out answers.

yes it is normal. unfortunately you were the chosen one. it does feel degrading. also next time carry a zip lock for your cosmetics.

The one way ticket prob got you flagged for a search. Sorry you had to endure that. Being a swashbuckling archaeologist, I travel a lot. Below is the best site for travel planning, and has great prices! Cheers, Indy http://www.choiceretreat.com

Can't say anything about that.. But most of the time they don't bother you unless the walk through detector go off... Jes follow directions that they say. REMOVE ALL METALLIC OBJECTS!!!

I take it this is your first trip going by air.? If you purchased a ticket and you only bought it one way then you would be required to go thru extra security checks that other folks would not have to go thru if they had purchased a round trip ticket and this includes the hand wanding you went thru and the search of your carry on bags. I can't go into detail but it is what it is and there are many reason why the system is set up this way and you will need to accept it. Next time if this happens you can ask for a private screening. It does not mean you have anything to hide but it is there for you if it makes you feel better and they are required to give it to you. As a passenger traveling by air you need to educate yourself on what you can and can not take thru the security checkpoints before you get to the airport. I hope your next experience is a better one.

you just happened to be the one they "randomly" picked. Also, by purchasing a one way ticket means you have more of a chance of going though this. It is completely normal though.

Abilene?

Yes, things changed alot since 9/11 and everybody are going thru all these procedures. Don't feel bad, I am sure everybody else feels the same way as you did. Look in the positive side! now you know what to do.

Package Deal Flight+Hotel

Package Deal Flight+Hotel?
So here's the situation: I need a really cheap flight to Dallas for next Friday, but they're all $500+. I found a package deal of a flight and a hotel as a bundle, but I don't need the hotel. Is it all right if I just don't show up at the hotel?

Is ok to travel by plane with my 1 month old baby

Is ok to travel by plane with my 1 month old baby?
My baby is set to be born on 8/22. I live in NY and my awaited 10 year High School reunion in TX is Sept. 26. I really would like to go, but i don't want to harm the baby. My husband would travel with me and it is a short flight from NY to Dallas and then another flight from Dallas to El Paso.

I think that is something to really ask your doctor. Planes are really hotbeds for germs and especially with a new born, they can catch a lot. I would say check with your doctor.

I traveled with my son when he was 9 weeks I just make sure when the plane took off he was sucking a bottle and then his ears would not pop. It was fine and then about 1 1/2 years later I did it again with 2 babies go for it!

A month postpartum my son and I got on a plane and took a 22 hour flight to Russia, by ourselfs! It is okay. Mothers will tell you no, not because of health risks but because they are too fearful to travel with such a small infant. Don't allow other moms fears to be your own. As long as your peditrican gave you the thumbs up, your good to go!

according to babycenter.com at 4-6 wks baby can travel by air. I have a friend that traveled with baby pretty early on and she is fine. Just keep a binkie or breast/bottle handy to use during take off and landing so their ear can adjust. I traveled when my son was a little older at about 6 months, they tend to sleep the whole way.

Your not supposed to fly with a baby under 1 year old some reports say. Some do and I personally don't know of anyone who had an issues who followed the basic rules when on a plane. Like an above poster said have him sucking his bottle during takeoff and landing so the babies ears don't pop. On a sidenote some airlines (don't know of any US ones thou) actually have baby cribs for young babies for mothers with young babies so apparently enough are doing that to warrant such a thing.

I went on a plane when I was about 1 month old to. But I would highly ask your pediatrician about that. I am just concerned about when your ears pop, that will probably be uncomfortable for the baby. I would also ask your pediatrician about some medicine the baby can take to reduce her/ his chance of getting sick on the plane/ trip. Hope this helps.

I don't think it would be harmful, but the baby will probably be very fussy and cry a lot, as he/she would not yet know how to pop their own ears to regulate the air pressure. (Oh, and Dallas to New York nonstop is not a short flight, [or at least I don't think a flight ranging from 3hrs 40mins to 4 hours is short, lol] I looked it up on Expedia, and it is REALLY expensive.) Seeing the expense of a non-stop from New York to Dallas, and seeing as how the airline might actually charge for a one month old (don't put it past them these days) and (not to sound mean) taking other passengers into consideration, you might want to consider leaving your husband home with your baby, and just going by yourself. However, DEFINITELY get a picture taken to show off :-)

I'm flying from Memphis, TN out to Dallas, TX tomorrow...weather

I'm flying from Memphis, TN out to Dallas, TX tomorrow...weather!?
Well all the websites are all giving me different forcasts for the weather. At like 7:00 our plane from Memphis is taking the 1 and a half hour flight to Dallas, TX, where we will then take off again to Tucson, AZ. Anyway, just wondering, if you live in the Dallas area, what do you think the weather will be like? I'm really kinda freaking out, I have a major phobia of planes and don't want a troublesome bumpy flight.

Well i live in San Antonio, TX and Dallas is about 5-6 hours NW. Over here it is pretty cold but no snow or rain. in Dallas there maybe some snow since it is up north. Don't get scared on the plane, it will get bumpy but its just turbulence. it has happened on every plane i go on even in bright sunny skies. P.S. The Dallas airport is really nice and big just try not to get lost because the trolley shuttle things get kind of confusing.

right now it is 79 and cloudy, very windy. Supposed to get a lot of rain overnight and thru the morning. Sorry, but bumps are likely--don't worry, though, they aren't dangerous! Take a Xanax....
