Really sorry to hear about your Dad, my condolences. Southwest Airlines from Dallas (Love Field) to Chicago Midway (South side) is looking at $663. American from DFW-Chicago O-Hare (North Side) is $759. United from DFW-ORD is $604 so United Airlines is the cheapest.

Therefore I suggest you check out http://www.southwest.com or http://www.kayak.com. American and United offer non-stop flights out of DFW to Chicago O'Hare. Southwest flies out of Love Field and lands in Chicago's Midway Airport. Also see if AirTran has anything though you will most likely have to connect in Atlanta.
