IT just means the parent takes the child through security, and stays with them in the secure area until the flight. THe child stays with an attendant the entire time. They are not left alone AT ALL until whomever, at the destination airort, picks them up. They are with an airline employee until this person arrives, and ID is checked. It's really safe!

Airline UM programs are not all exactly the same, but in general: Using the Unaccompanied Minor program has to be arranged in advance. Don't just show up at the airport. An adult with ID has to take the UM to the airport and deliver them to the check-in desk. The UM will usually get an ID or tag that identifies them as an "Unaccompanied Minor" at that time. Most airlines want the adult to take the child to security after check-in, but an airline employee will escort the UM to their flight after that, stay with them, and ensure the flight crew knows they are an Unaccompanied Minor. An airline employee will also walk the UM to their connecting flight (in Dallas in your case) and stay with them until the flight boards. An airline employee will escort the UM from the aircraft to the arrivals area at the destination airport. An adult with ID has to meet them there. Hope you have a great flight.

I gave a pretty long writeup of the process to the person who asked this same question yesterday. When asking a question, please look at the similar questions that Y!A shows you, or do a search.
